Tafseer and Tadabbur

Class Time: 10:00-11:00am EST Saturdays

The Tafseer and Tadabbur course focuses on reading, researching, and reflecting upon the verses of the Qur'an to understand its message to humanity. Students will begin in Surat ul-Faatihah and continue into the next Surah engaging in line-by-line study until the completion of the year. It is highly recommended that this course be taken in conjunction with the Introduction to the Sciences of The Qur'an and Tafseer Methodology.

Here’s what we will cover:

  • Methodologies of Tafseer: Understanding the different approaches used in Tafseer, including linguistic, legal, and historical methods. We will learn how to analyze the historical and situational context of Qur'anic verses and familiarize ourselves with key tools and sources like Hadith, historical records, and classical commentaries.

  • In-Depth Study: We will begin with a detailed analysis of Surah Al-Fatihah and progress to other chapters, selected for their thematic relevance or scholarly importance. We will examine specific verses to understand their meanings and implications thoroughly.

  • Principles of Tadabbur: Understanding Tadabbur (reflection) and its role in personal and spiritual development. We will explore methods for integrating academic interpretation with personal reflection to achieve a holistic understanding of the Qur'an.
