Tafseer and Qur'anic Sciences

This course offers an in-depth study of the Noble Qur’an, examined verse by verse with careful attention to its linguistic structure, rhetorical beauty, and thematic coherence. Students will engage with classical and contemporary approaches to tafseer while also exploring how the Qur’an addresses questions of spirituality, philosophy, and comparative religion.

Alongside direct commentary, the course will introduce the foundational disciplines of ‘UlĆ«m al-Qur’an—the sciences of The Qur’an—including topics such as the circumstances of revelation (asbāb an-nuzĆ«l), abrogation (naskh), modes of recitation (qirāʟāt), preservation and compilation, and the principles of interpretation.

By the end of the course, students will gain the tools to approach the Qur’an with greater depth, clarity, and reverence, learning not only how to understand its meanings but also how to apply its guidance.
