Our Islamic Studies Program is designed to ground students in the knowledge of the various fields of theIslamic Sciences from Arabic Language and Qur'an Recitation to The Sciences of Hadith and Jurisprudence. These courses are ideal for Muslims who want to gain a deeper understanding of theirDeen as well as Imams and Teachers of the Religion. 

The Foundations of Al-Islam

This is an introductory course that covers the fundamentals every Muslim should know. Classes are conducted daily from 900 - 10:00 EST and cover the subjects of the Qur'an, the Prophetic Tradition and Seerah, The Articles of Faith, and The basics of Correct Worship. This course is ideal for new Muslims seeking to gain a deeper understanding of their faith as well as Muslims in general who want to begin the path of learning their religion in a systematized way.

 The Science of Qur'an Recitation

Ijazah in Hafs 'an-'Asim

The Science of Qur'an Recitation covers the fundamentals of tajwid according to the reading of Hafs 'an Asim. Students will learn the basic rules regarding the science of tajwid, the proper points of articulation of the Arabic letters (makhaarijul huroof), the types of madd, nun rules, etc. By the end of the program year, students will be able to read Juz’ ‘Amma (30) with fluency and understand/identify the various rules of tajwid within a given verse. Those who demonstrate proficiency in the program will have the option to complete the reading of the Qur'an, in its entirety, and receive ijazah in the reading of Hafs 'an 'Asim.

Ijazah in the Variant Readings

'Asharah Sughra wal-Kubra

The Ijazah in the Variant Readings course is for students who have either obtained an ijazah in Hafs 'an 'Asim or can demonstrate proficiency in any riwayah of the Imams of Qira'at. Students will complete the 'Asharah Sughra and Kubra respectively, according to the Shatibiyyah, and upon demonstrating mastery of the rules of the various riwayaat, will be eligible to receive ijazah.

Qur'anic Arabic

The Qur'anic Arabic course is designed to enable students to read the Book of Allah with an understanding of its linguistic composition. Students will cover the sciences of morphology (Sarf), syntax (Nahw),  and rhetoric (Balagha) particularly as they are demonstrated within the context of the Qur'anic revelation. Furthermore, attention will be given to the linguistic approach to Tafseer and the unique literary structure of the Qur'an.

 Introduction to the Sciences of the Qur'an and Tafseer Methodology

The Introduction to The Sciences of The Qur'an and Tafseer Methodology course is designed to give students the keys to open a lifelong journey of Qur'an study. Alongside several introductory texts, the course is centered on Shah Waliyullah's Fawz ul-Kabeer fee Usul ut-Tafseer, and direct research of the Qur'anic text in light of the various subjects elucideted within this work. Students will also have the option to receive ijazah upon being tested on the book.

Tafseer and Tadabbur

The Tafseer and Tadabbur course focuses on reading, researching, and reflecting upon the verses of the Qur'an to understand its message to humanity. Students will begin in Surat ul-Faatihah and continue into the next Surah engaging in line-by-line study until the completion of the year. It is highly recommended that this course be taken in conjunction with the Introduction to the Sciences of The Qur'an and Tafseer Methodology.
